supportHello, After upgrading to version 2, i have one admin profile applied to the main site admin (which is not subject to controlled admin access) so i am stuck and cannot revert or change. is there a fall back access url? What is the solution? Your urgent help is needed. Thank you.
Hello @kellybakri Would you please explain the issue in more detail? Do you have a multisite installation? After the 2.0 update, the controlled admin access can be applied to any admin, but if you did not update the user from the Controlled Access page, the admin won’t be affected and they will have full access as a normal admin.
Hello, No, single site. i have 1 main site admin and 2 created by controlled admin access. both were disabled. one needed to be active for a minor plugin related task. So, with the new interface, v2., I changed email address and pass and updated more limitations for that user. after they finished there work, deactivated their access from CAA. after that i found out that my access, which is the primary admin, not part of the CAA users, has now the same settings as that user and accordingly i am extremely disabled, i cannot even access the plugin itself as i have it hidden. What to do urgently? Thank you. Kelly
I tried to reproduce the issue but with no luck. If you have access to the server you may try to delete the plugin’s folder for now. This will deactivate the plugin and remove your restrictions.
i can remove the plugin folder itself. but when i restore it, will i lose the other users and their history?
Hello Kelly, If you disabled the plugin, you won’t lose any data or users. But you will need to change the role of the other admins because they will have normal admin access after the disabling of the plugin. If you would like me to debug the issue further please send me an admin account after deleting the plugin on https://wpruby.com/contact/
the moment i restored it, there was a 2.01 update when applied it was automatically activated and again lost access. How can i reset my account? it should not apply to the root admin account. this never happened before in 1.5. kindly advise.
i need CAA to give remote admins access. now you ask me to give you admin access :-)))))
To reset your account please do the following: – Delete the plugin again. – Create a new user admin. – Login with the new admin. – Install the plugin, and make sure that you have the latest version 2.0.2 – Activate the plugin, and go to Controlled Access. – In the Actions column, you will find a new button called Reset User. – Please, reset the old admin. – Logout and log in with the old admin. This should fix the issue, and you can delete the newly created admin afterwards. Please, if the issue happened again, let me know how exactly I can reproduce the issue.
I will follow your instructions, but 2 points: 1. you have had 2 updates since this morning. 2.01 and 2.02. I assume i will get 2.02 from your website. 2. The problem is that it is affecting my root admin not an admin created using CAA. This is what i have been trying to tell you since the morning. Please review and advise and i will update you. Thanks, Kelly
Hello Waseem, i cannot find a button with reset.
The problem is that it is affecting my root admin not an admin created using CAA. This is what i have been trying to tell you since the morning. Yes, I understood that. Creating a temporary new admin will allow you to reset the root admin. i cannot find a button with reset. I think it is the browser cache, please empty the cache or use a different browser, this will show the reset button. https://prnt.sc/GgkB_dwje1-M
Hi, I did but it’s not there. I can’t attach screenshot but i assure you. More importantly i can report with a great degree of confidence that this version needs review. The 2 admins i created previously with CAA v1.5, which i updated yesterday, keep losing the settings that i made and revert to what seems to be an earlier setting or something in between. i checked again today. Also, the root admin user, i have cleared all settings manually, in the absence of the reset button, but to make it stick i had to iterate 6 times yesterday and checked again today and now it is clear. To my mind it is as if it is copying a ghost template of the settings. Please review and advise. Thank you, Kelly
Dear Waseem, I can now see the reset icon. but, the problem is still there. all settings are not updated properly. Your feedback is highly appreciated. Should i revert back to 1.5? I need a working solution. All my development work has been stopped for a few days now. Your urgent help is highly appreciated. Thank you. Kelly
Also, the plugin is now visible on plugins page, which allows any admin to deactivate it causing havoc. Please advise.
Hello @kellybakri Have you updated to 2.0.4, this should fix the issue of restricting the root admin. But you still need to reset the root admin from the temporary admin you created.
Hi Waseem, It was updated. but what about the other 2 issues? other users seem to be applying a ghost template and saving the settings does not seem to have a real effect. p.s. i created a page rule on Cloudflare bypassing cashing until we are finished with dev. also, hiding CAA from the plugins page? Please review and advise. Kelly

Do you mean that when you update the user nothing changes? When clicking on the Edit button again, do you see different settings for the user? also, hiding CAA from the plugins page? Have you by any chance changed the plugin folder name? because I could not reproduce this issue, where exactly does the restricted user see the plugin listed?
Hi Waseem, When i apply more restrictions to one of the 2 users previously created with CAA 1.5 and save the settings. After returning to them, the settings are no longer there, and they seem to be in an earlier settings with much less restrictions – as if they were an earlier version. no file level change at all. if i am not mistaken, the plugin had a setting to hide it from all other admins except from the one who installed it. so, in effect it would not appear on the plugins page. as if it was not installed. i cannot find the settings page in v. 2. Thank you Kelly
Hi Waseem, Could you please send me a link for v.1.5x. I will revert back to it until you get this one sorted out. simply unworkable. i can’t get any settings saved for other users and can’t hide from plugins page so it defeats the purpose. Thanks, Kelly
Hello Kelly, Sorry but I could not reproduce any issue from the above. The settings are updated correctly, and I can not see the plugin in the Plugins list whilst logged in as a restricted admin. I would like to investigate further if you send me your site configuration details from Site Health -> Info on https://wpruby.com/contact Here is the download link for 1.5.12 https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/controlled-admin-access.1.5.12.zip
Hi Waseem, We have disabled cache from Cloudflare as advised. till now, i cannot update settings on one of the existing users even after 2.06. So, i had to revert to 1.5.12 which you sent me which seems to store the settings correctly for all users and i was able to create a new admin as well with all settings saved properly. Please let me know when you fix it so i can upgrade to the latest version. Best regards, Kelly
Hello Kelly, As I mentioned before, I could not reproduce the issue, so if you send me your site debug info, I would try to find the issue.
