I still prefer the old widget screen for simple sidebar edits. Is Classic Widgets meant to keep working long term, or should I slowly start moving my widgets to the block editor? Here’s my take on it: classic themes that use classic widgets will be around for a very long time. After all, a huge number of websites rely on these themes. Removing this feature from WordPress simply isn’t practical, given the sheer number of projects that depend on it. In my opinion, you can definitely continue to use this plugin – which enables the classic widget functionality built into WordPress – for quite some time to come.
