Why can’t I use Vaultpress without installing Jetpack? Vaultpress was excellent. But now I have to install this bloated monster called “Jetpack” just to make backups work. Bye Bye Vaultpress and Never again Jetpack. The new Jetpack plans include the VaultPress plugin with the same features that were included in the VaultPress standalone plans, as well as Akismet for anti-spam and some upgrades to our Jetpack features – all at a lower cost. You’re getting more features for less money. For now, the plugins still do operate independently. If you’d prefer to only use VaultPress, you can install and connect Jetpack to purchase the plan and then remove Jetpack after you’ve set up the plan and backups. Regarding the bloat you mention, make sure that you’re only using the modules you want. Most of Jetpack is designed to speed up your site by taking load off of your server, like our site accelerator https://jetpack.com/support/site-accelerator/ or stats https://jetpack.com/support/wordpress-com-stats/ subscriptions https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/ and related posts https://jetpack.com/support/related-posts/ which are all processed on our end (rather than hammering your database as these features traditionally do). With that said though, the more Jetpack modules you add, the more your site has to initially process, just like it would if you added a separate plugin for the features. Always make sure you’re only using the features you want and you don’t have to worry about any added bloat. Regarding overall speed and load, here’s an excellent independent report: https://mattreport.com/jetpack-speed/ If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us through our contact form and mention this thread.
