Hi, I have not found this problem so here goes. When I activate Country Specific Menu Items plugin the Preview and Update buttons on the WP page editor stop working. When I de-activate the plugin Preview & Update start working again. https://wordpress.org/plugins/location-specific-menu-items-by-country/ I am using the Twentytwelve theme. Well that’s no good. What version of WP are you using? I just installed the twenty twelve theme with WP 4.5.3 and the Preview and Update buttons still work for me. In addition to confirming you’re on the latest WP version, can you send me a list of plugins you’re using? I have WP 4.5.3 for a week or two, with plugins: – All in one Favicon – iThemes Security – Optimize Database after Deleting Revisions – Restore Link Title Field – RSS Includes Pages – Sheild (protection) – WP Last Modified – Really simple image widget – Page-list – Footer Putter – TJ Customm CSS – Mailgun (email automation engine) – Country Specific Menu Items When I click the button to install Geolite databases it just hangs for several minutes, with the dots circling. The Control Panel notice keeps coming back. Thanks! Ok, please disable iThemes Security and see if that fixes either the Geolite database download problem and/or the update/preview button problem. If neither issue is resolved, also disable Sheild and try again. It sounds like the Geolite database issue is a permissions problem created by one of these security plugins. Also make sure the uploads folder hasn’t been renamed. I’m not sure how any of this would affect the update and preview buttons, but iThemes is known to cause all kinds of compatibility problems. Please let me know how it goes! Thanks for your specific instructions. 1. Disabling iThemes Security then enabling your Country Specific Menu Items enables Preview and Update. Geolite Databases still do not install within one minute, though. 2. Disabling Sheild as well does not show any sign of sorting out the Geolite Databases either. Do you have any ideas where I should be looking in iThemes settings to make it compatible with Country Specific Menu Items? I feel happier not leaving Shield off for very long – rightly or wrongly. It provides the firewall and the login protection. But I can conduct more tests if you have more ideas. I get the impression that the Geolite Databases are not that important. I wonder if there are some files that I should exclude from iThemes File Checking module. I tried disabling iThemes File Checking but Geolite installation still hanging. Downloading the Geolite databases will speed up initial page load time a little bit. Location data is stored for the session so if the first page visited loads fast enough for your visitors, it might not be necessary to download them. The databases are saved in folder at wp-content/uploads/geoip. If your uploads folder has been renamed, or a security plugin is blocking write access to the folder, the download won’t work. If you really want to use the database files, you might try manually creating the wp-content/uploads/geoip folder. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for that helpful explanation. The most pressing problem for me is that I cannot have iThemes and Country Specific Menu Items active at the same time while editing website content. I have tried disabling some aspects of iThemes one at a time without enabling editing with both plugins active. I mean that I have not yet managed to narrow down what in iThemes is conflicting with Country Specific Menu Items. Do you think it is simply not possible to use both? It’s definitely possible to use both. Just need to figure out which setting is causing the conflict and decide whether leaving it off is feasible.
