Hi, I updated a number of plugins yesterday, the result was unable to access the control panel, but the site would still load and work. I finally traced the issue to Child Theme Creator by Orbisius. Deleting this plugin via FTP get everything up and running again. I have tried to install it, but get the following error… Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /home/sites/firstediction.co.uk/public_html/2010it/wp-content/plugins/orbisius-child-theme-creator/orbisius-child-theme-creator.php on line 274 Do you have a fix to this problem ?? Thanks… The page I need help with: [ log in to see the link] Hi, I think you’re running on older version of php. Most likely 5.2. Can you change the php version to php 5.4 or better? I have updated PHP to v5.4 – removed and installed the pluging, but get the same error when I activate it. Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. I don’t get an error message as bewlay51. I only get an Error 500 and only solution is to load a backup. I have PHP 7.1 active with wordpress 4.8.1–de_DE NUTS. I’ve removed your contact link, if you are going to circumvent this cautioning then please consider taking support off of these forums completely. I know you have good intentions, I do not doubt that at all. But do not log into your user’s site. That goes too far and is taken very seriously here. There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far. Ask for a link to the http://pasetbin.com/ log of the user’s web server error log. Ask the user to create and post a link to their phpinfo(); output. Ask the user to install the Send System Info plugin and get the data that way. Walk the user through enabling WP_DEBUG and how to log that output to a file and how to share that file. Walk the user through basic troubleshooting steps such and disabling all other plugins except yours, switch to the Twenty Fifteen theme, clear their cache and cookies and try again. Ask the user for the step-by-step on how they can reproduce the problem. You get the idea. Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums. Hi @jdembowski , Our free support/fix offer is only valid for Child Theme Creator v1.4.0 which we’ve released prematurely by mistake and as a result crashed many people’s sites. We’ve created a video showing how to fix the issue [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9OJBWAPKMk ] but for some people it still difficult. We prefer to fix the person’s site quickly rather than exchanging multiple emails and frustrating users. Slavi That’s great and thanks for the amazing support and help. Now, do not log into users installation. That’s not really a suggestion and if you’ve any questions then please feel free to contact the plugins team. I have put notices that the official support is handled on Orbisius site but people still post in WordPress org forums. To recap I want to help (even though I have lots of things on my plate) but: – I can’t post contact form links – I can’t post support email – I can’t ask people to contact me What options do I have? How would you have handled the situation? Where are those rules that you’re referred to? I couldn’t find theme here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_the_Support_Forums
