supportI have several sites connected to the same Jetpack/wordpress.com account. 2 of them have the same 2 Facebook pages configured for automatic social sharing. One of these works, and the other one doesn’t. Is this setup supposed to work? If not, what can I do? The sites belong to the same organisation and sharing on the organisation’s pages makes sense. How can I process the backlog, i.e. share the posts manually, from within WordPress? The page I need help with: [ log in to see the link]
Hi there, @galbaras , In principle, this setup you mentioned is supported, so I’d like to investigate why one site behaves differently from the other. Could you let me know: What happens when a post is published on the site that isn’t sharing? Do you see any error messages in Jetpack → Social or in the post editor? Are the Facebook Page connections shown as active on both sites? Approximately when did the sharing stop working? Could you share the URLs of the working and non-working sites? If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via contact form . If you choose to reach out directly, please include a link to this thread. Regarding previously published posts, Jetpack Social does not automatically process a backlog of posts that failed to share. However, you can usually reshare individual posts from within WordPress using the Social tools available on the pos t, depending on your plan and setup. Once I have a bit more information about the two sites and any errors you’re seeing, I should be able to point you in the right direction. Speak soon!
Hi Stef, I saw no errors on any page, and cannot find any messages in the error_log file for the time of publishing of the most recent 2 posts. Both Facebook pages are active on both sites in Jetpack -> Social. I can’t see any evidence of this ever working on personalgrowthweb.com , only on ronitbaras.com . To be clear, both sites use the Classic Editor. Manual sharing worked well, but by default, both pages are unchecked when I click the little Jetpack “Edit” link and the box opens.
Hi @galbaras , Thank you for those details! The fact that the Facebook connections are unchecked by default when you create a new post on personalgrowthweb.com may be the key here. Normally, connected accounts should be checked by default for new posts. I’ve confirmed that the Jetpack connection on both of your sites is healthy, so this isn’t a connectivity issue. There are a few things I’d like you to check and try specifically on personalgrowthweb.com: Go to Jetpack → Settings → Sharing on personalgrowthweb.com and make sure the “Automatically share your posts to social networks” toggle is enabled. Even if your connections are listed and active, this toggle controls whether they default to “on” in the editor. If it was accidentally turned off, the connections will appear as unchecked by default. Sometimes the connection state can get out of sync on a per-site basis. Try the following: Go to Jetpack → Social (or Jetpack → Settings → Sharing) on personalgrowthweb.com. Disconnect both Facebook pages. Reconnect them. After reconnecting, click the ⌄ arrow next to each connection and make sure “Mark the connection as shared” is checked. This ensures the connection is available to all users on that site. After completing the steps above, create a new post and check the Jetpack Social section in the Publish box. Click Edit: the connections should now be checked by default. Publish the post and confirm it gets shared to Facebook. Regarding your backlog of unshared posts, unfortunately Jetpack Social does not retroactively auto-share posts that were previously published without sharing. However, you can manually reshare them one at a time using the Classic Editor. More details on resharing are here: https://jetpack.com/support/jetpack-social/social-sharing-new-posts/#how-to-re-share-a-post-classic-editor Please let me know how it goes after trying the steps above for personalgrowthweb.com, and we’ll take it from there if necessary.
Hi Stef, This seems to be working for a new post, but not for existing ones. I’m going to manually share previously published posts, so for now, I think we’re good. Just to clarify, the “mark as shared” tooltip says that this means sharing all admin, editor and author users, which seems to be for the same site. Does this also make it shared across different sites? If so, this isn’t clear on the page itself.
Hey @galbaras , Great news that new posts are sharing as expected now! To clarify your question about “Mark the connection as shared”, this setting is per-site only. It does not share the connection across different sites. What it does is make that specific social media connection available to other users on the same site, meaning any administrator, editor, or author on that site can also auto-share their posts to that connected account. Without it, only the user who originally created the connection can use it. So if you’re the only author on both sites, this setting doesn’t have any practical effect for you. Each site manages its own social connections independently, even when they’re linked to the same WordPress.com account. You’ll always need to connect and configure the Facebook pages separately on each site. Regarding the previously published posts, your plan to reshare them manually from within the Classic Editor is the right approach. More details here (more as a reminder and for anyone looking at this thread in the future): Share your WordPress posts with Jetpack Social . Hope that helps and answers your question!
Thank you for the explanation. I would have expected existing posts to default to any shared connection being checked, not just new posts. Also, on both sites, I’m the administrator, and I’m the one doing the actual publishing, so it seems this isn’t a role/capability check.
