supportHi Gerard, I am currently finalizing my first website, which will be using your AI translation plugin. At the moment, a generic language switcher is placed in the bottom-left corner of the site. Is it possible to move the language switcher into the regular navigation bar? Or can I simply hide the default language switcher and copy the URLs into my nav-bar, like: /fr/?switch_lang=fr Kind regards, Benjamin van den Berg
If you do not want the language switcher to be displayed, you can select only languages as detectable instead of selectable. Suppose you click EN and FR as detectable and you will switch to https://yoursite.com/fr/ it will be displayed in french. Detectable means that it will look at the users browser to switch to a different language. Then you can build it in menu’s as well. There is no need to add more than just a language after your site url.
Hi Gerard, Thank you for following up on my question. I’ve added language links to a standard WordPress navigation menu, so it can be used as a manual language switcher. Currently, I’m using three submenu items with the following URLs: Nederlands mydomain.nl/nl/ English mydomain.nl/en/ Arabic mydomain.nl/ar/ This setup works correctly when navigating from the default Dutch homepage. However, when visiting the translated English homepage, all submenu links are rewritten to: mydomain.nl/en/ The same goes for Arabic homepage, all submenu links are rewritten to: mydomain.nl/ar/ I’m not sure if this behavior is intended or if I’m configuring the menu incorrectly. What would be the recommended way to set up these submenu URLs so they can function properly as a language switcher? It is indeed intended behavior to rewrite menu items with a language part included, otherwise it would not be possible to navigate in your preferred language. But indeed, if you use menu’s for switching languages it probably wel maken menu items like mydomain/en/ar for arabic in the english version of the site. There is no way with the plugin to avoid that now. Would it help you if I make an admin option to choose where to place the language switcher (default flags in the lower left part of the site. Hi Gerard, Thanks again for your help and for clarifying the menu rewriting behavior. I understand why it happens. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a way to exclude certain menus or menu items from automatic translation, or alternatively provide a shortcode or special menu type that I could place in a standard navigation block. That way, I could render a manual language switcher exactly where I want in the navigation, without the plugin rewriting the URLs. This would make it much easier to integrate a custom language switcher in the main nav while keeping the rest of the menus fully translated. Thank you very much for considering this. Hi Benjamin, You can try the latest version of the plugin where you can put the language switcher in any corner of the site. That might solve your problem for now. I have made an issue for the request to add the language switcher to the navigation bar. So it will be present in a future version. You too the best for 2026. Version 2.2.1 has the nav menu option included instead of the popup. Go to admin – AI Translate and select hidden/menu in the language switcher. There is a language switcher menu option in Appearance Menu.
Hi Gerard, Apologies for the late reply… last week was exceptionally busy. I’ve noticed some really nice additions in the latest updates and will be taking a closer look today. Everything already looks very promising. I’ll be happy to report back with feedback once I’ve had a chance to test the latest update.
