Hi Daniel, Thank you for your feedback. The Basic version of NextGEN Gallery Optimizer is definitely still free (it always will be), and all previous functionality remains. The new front-end messaging you’re seeing in the latest version (v.1.1.1) is intended first and foremost to inform admins about the Basic version’s limitations – in order to quickly assist the many users who skip the documentation. It also highlights the Premium version’s feature set in case that would be more appropriate for their requirements, but there is absolutely no obligation. This messaging only appears when an unsupported shortcode is being used (to explain why formatting/slideshows etc. appear broken) and only displays to logged-in admins – so is not visible to any of your visitors (or even your subscribers, authors, or editors). You can verify this by logging out. If you’d like to keep using the Basic version of Optimizer as you are (and don’t want to see the messaging when logged in), you can simply delete the two final functions in wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery-optimizer/nextgen-optimizer-functions.php Much like the check for “wp_deregister_script(‘jquery’);” also present in this version, and the many other compatibility verifications and notifications currently in development, the new front-end messaging is the result of numerous direct user requests and plugin support questions/troubleshooting. The response has been generally good thus far, however I do apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding it may have caused. Kind regards, Mark.
