Right now, when using keyboard navigation (tab and enter keys), the dropdown menu item automatically opens when receiving focus, so you have to tab through all the subitems before going to the next main menu item. Instead of this behavior, you can use the approaches recommended in the W3C Flyout Menu article to open the submenu when the enter key is pressed or on mouse hover. I’ve added it to the roadmap and hopefully we’ll have that out shortly!
