Asset cleanup breaks adminbar + interface

Hi there, I cannot find anything online regarding this issue, so I must be the first. When having asset cleanup active, my admin bar + my ability to edit pages is broken, even when using test mode. I have already tried to deselect all options, but even only having the plugin active (without any functionality enabled) is doing this. Apparantly, the plugin does some stuff by default that is causing this. According to chatgpt, this is a known issue, but I cannot find any online when I google. I cannot find any errors in my debug log and also my browser console does not show any errors. I have also tried de-activating the plugin and re-acivating it, clearing the cache, etc. Still this happens. Can you please help me? update: appears the dashboard functionality is breaking this. My admin toolbar often fails to display, especially on the homepage, but this pre-dates my recent installation of Asset Cleanup.
