supportBack again for my annual wrestling match. My publisher is expanding and, as part of that, looking to move all the production Google Drive folders into Team Drives, the latest G Twist. Just wondering if anyone’s tried this; I’ve started trying, but I stopped after getting an error when I tried to change the destination folder (in the plug-in settings) from this https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_1o2x1io1P0ZTA2ZjllZDctY2M3YS00NWIzLWFiMTktYzI4ZTIyYTIyZjA4 to this https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0ACOr2rJLmSGOUk9PVA Both of these URLs resolve/redirect just fine in the browser to the standard Drive URLs, which are slightly different — meaning, in the case of the new link, the following https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ACOr2rJLmSGOUk9PVA But the old one works; the new Team Drive link, which has a significantly shorter unique ID, does not. The error log on the web server is not at all helpful: [Tue Jan 30 12:59:49.014224 2018] [:error] [pid 4455] [client XX.XXX.XXX.XXX:47060] https://docs.google.com/feeds/download/documents/export/Export?id=1fDH2DwbqhpOJ9q6O5-8CE4UwIbiXqL2xdGq981G8EVE&exportFormat=html I have NOT tried changing the origin folder setting, since I’m pretty sure that will just break the plug-in. Right now, with the origin folder still set at the same old Google Drive folder as before, it still transfers the Doc successfully to WP. @tararebeka , you out there still fighting the good fight?
Still here and chugging along. It’s beyond helpful that it’s me and my assistant (aka Web Monkey) that determine the entire workflow. It’s basically remained untouched for years – don’t fix what isn’t broken. ;^) But yes, every time I see something like this come across I break out into a fine sweat. Eventually Google will update to something and we’ll have no choice. We’re in layout for most of this week, but I’m happy to play with this on a test server next week and see what I run across. Nothing like a challenge, right?
Thank you, Tara. Yes, if only Google hired people who didn’t exclusively fix things that aren’t broken, we’d be fine. Check with me before you go through any test server fun times (or I will check back in if I get an answer sooner); the truth is, the publisher is also considering moving all the websites, including the three WP sites I built, to another CMS (don’t even ask) that is used by the one relatively gigantic news site he recently acquired. If that happens, it’s probably time for me to hang up my gloves and look for a shuffleboard team. Meantime, don’t know if you saw this, but here’s something I hadn’t heard about: https://www.wordable.io . If it works, it could be worth the high-ish cost for someone like you (or me) who needs to move a bunch of Docs all at once to one or more sites.
I had not heard of Wordable. It’s good to know that there’s at least some kind of backup for the workflow we have going on. I certainly hate that we’re really left to Google’s whims otherwise. I looked into the Team Folder thing, and at a glance I think I need a G-Suite account, which eludes me at the moment. I think part of the problem might be the types of permissions it needs to grant access to each user. There are so many gateways that I think the original plugin isn’t designed for – just a guess. That being said, I wonder if something like this would work: getting the folder code from a shared link. Email a link: Click a file to share. Click Share person_add. Click Who has access. Next to Link sharing off, click the Down arrow expand_more. Next to the URL, click Copy. The link is now on your clipboard. Click Done. Paste the link into an email. The link it generates might be somewhat different than the sharing between team members. The permissions are granted for that specific link, rather than the group. A shot in the dark, but maybe worth a go.
